DC Gun Buy-Back Program a Joke
The District of Columbia held a “Gun Amnesty” Event on Saturday, and collected guns at local churches, no questions asked. They offered:
- $100 for assault-style rifles and automatic/semi-automatic pistols
- $50 for revolvers, Derringers, rifles and shotguns
- $10 for air/BB/pellet guns
Over 350 guns were turned over to authorities in exchange for money.
Some critics of gun buy-back programs say they’re a waste of tax payer money, and really are not an effective gun control measure.
One man, interviewed by Fox News, helped bolster this claim. Jim Snyder said this after turning in a gun:
I figured it was a good opportunity to have the District of Columbia help subsidize me buying a real gun.
Hmmm, I wonder why a gun buy-back program is even necessary in an area with the most stringent gun control laws in the country. Curiously, Washington D.C. is known as the “nation’s murder capital”. Could it be strict gun control laws only penalize law abiding citizens and not criminals who willingly disregard said laws?
Would it be possible to find out when the next one of these is, I am thinking I could offer 125 for pistols and feel like I got a great deal
Good idea, you could set up a stand outside, and pay just a little more, and start up a fine gun collection. It turns out you missed a gun buy-back in St. Louis in December. You could have purchased some even cheaper there, as police only offered $50. We’ll have to keep our eyes out for the next event
