During the debate, John McCain told a touching story about a mother who gave him the bracelet of her son who died in combat. She asked John to make sure he had not died in vain. In an immature “my dad can beat up your dad” moment, Obama responded he had a bracelet too. He couldn’t remember the soldiers name, and had to clumsily look down and read the name on the bracelet.
Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.
“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”
The Obama campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the campaign. Several prosecutors and sheriffs scattered around the state have joined “Barack Obama Truth Squad”, and are ready to prosecute offenders.
St. Louis attorney Jennifer Joyce said this, “We want to keep this campaign focused on issues. We don’t want people to get distracted …. Missourians don’t want to be distracted by these divisive character attacks.”

There have been many breathless news reports stating Sarah has said our nation is on a task from God in Iraq and it is His will we are there. These reports are a distortion of what Sarah Palin said. Here are her actual quotes, just after she told the congregation of Wasilla AG about her son Track enlisting in the military:
Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right also for this country …that our leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God …. that’s what we have to make sure we are praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan. So, bless them with your prayers, your prayers of protection over our soldiers.
She was not saying whether God endorses the mission in Iraq, but rather asking the congregation to pray for God’s will to be done rather than man’s alone, and asking for prayers of protection for son and other soldiers. Wow, you know, most Christians I know pray often for God’s will to be done in our lives and in our nation as a whole. We Christians must be a lot more “fringe” than I thought.

Personally, I am heartened a woman of integrity and faith may occupy the VP’s office in a few short months. It certainly scares the reporters at MSNBC and CNN. I may even pray that God’s will is done in upcoming election.

I knew Sarah Palin would surprise everyone with with her ability and wit, but she exceeded even my high expectations. She showed incredible poise under extreme pressure and vitriolic attacks. She never missed a beat, never uttered a single “uh”, despite her teleprompter malfunctioning. Sarah portrayed integrity, sincerity, and a willingness to fight for her beliefs. The love she showed for her children was touching and unmistakable. The humorous, stinging barbs she lobbed at Obama were perfectly timed and delivered. Right around the 7:20 mark is one of my favorite lines when Sarah refers to the “Greek styrofoam pillars” behind Obama during his acceptance speech.
I am thrilled John McCain picked an intelligent, well-spoken, honest, sincere, CONSERVATIVE woman! As a conservative, Christian brunette mom who wears glasses and like guns, I feel a kind of kinship with her … other than the whole moose hunting, fishing, governing towns and states differences.
